About Us
|
The Drumbo and Carryduff Council of the Knights of St. Columbanus was inaugurated in the parish on 25th March 2003 with 17 members. This included 3 members who were seconded from Downpatrick Council for a period of 24 months to guide Drumbo and Carryduff Council in their early days. Their help was very much appreciated.
In 2004, during it's second year in existence the Council were honoured to receive the Council of the Year Award for their efforts in Area 2 which basically covers the diocese of Down and Connor.
One of the main objectives of the local Council is to assist our parish and community by engaging in charitable activities and developing and seeing through to fruition worthwhile projects.
Our Council meet on a monthly basis and are here to work with our Priest's and parish groups.
Throughout the year, the Council organise various social events which range in diversity from Bowling, Clay Pigeon shoots to poker classics and these bring in vital funds which enable the projects to be carried out.
These events are advertised in the parish and we would ask you to support them if you can.
We have four main objectives. These are:
To promote by personal and group action the extension of a practical Chrisianity in all phases of life.
To maintain a fraternal society of Catholic Lay leadership.
To honour the Faith.
To prepare its members for the Apostolate.
The aim of the Knights is to maintain our country Christian in outlook, thought and action. To achieve this end we are guided by two principles of action. The first is the law of Charity. The second is the law of Justice. | |
